Improved awareness of disaster prevention research is a core objective of the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction as we work to reduce fatalities and property damage. We operate conferences across Canada. These events are open, typically for a modest fee to recover the cost of the event, to members of the Institute and others who are interested in participating. Most conferences are one or two day events and bring together a large and diverse group of participants.
The Institute also provides a forum for our members to interact directly with researchers. Our Friday Forum program provides leading researchers an opportunity to explain their findings and discuss the implications. These events are typically private off-the-record discussions. Attendance is limited to 25 or fewer participants to encourage frank interchange. Meetings are held each month in Toronto, where most in attendance are coming from the Canadian insurance and reinsurance community. Meetings are also held elsewhere across Canada as determined by the research findings.
